![]() Super Mario Sunshine lives on the classic Mario, but takes it another level with even less side-scrolling than Super Mario 64, and a whole lot more sense of freedom. ![]() Graphics A Sound A Gameplay C Lasting Appeal B Had it not been for this, I would probably have stuck with SMS to the end, but I had to just be done with it once and for all, otherwise I would have chucked my Gamecube at the wall. Many levels and missions require precision manoeuvring and can often take several minutes of painstaking balance and ascension only for it all to be undone, as Mario plummets several hundred feet, by a tiny little flaw in your button-bashing. However, the designers have simply tried to cram in too many controls on the Gamecube pad and, as a result, it's a very hard game to control. The music, the graphics, the humor are all cute and colorful. It doesn't really have the same charm in the winter months however. It's one of those games that you can just keep on playing over the years and even put aside for a while before going back to it. So now it's up to him to clean it up across the various levels and worlds. Mario vacations in this sunny resort only to find it's covered in pollution when he arrives. The perfect blue skies, glorious sunshine and beautiful water effects make you just want to pass through the screen and into the Isle of Delfino in the game itself. It definitely wasn't the best game, but it kept me entertained.SMS is definitely a gorgeous game to look at and a perfect game to get you in a summertime mood. Fludd's voice gave me the creeps at times XD.Īnyhow, it wasn't a bad game. I liked the vibrant colours of the game and some of the music was pretty good. ![]() I found some of the missions kinda tedious, but some, I found kinda cool. The bosses were no better, or worse, than M64, becase those were pretty damn easy, too, imo. Personally, I thought MS lacked in storyline and, like said in previous posts, was a bit too easy at some bits of the game. The exploration for a Mario game was considered novel and plenty of fun (though if there was one thing I could've gone without in M64, it was the ending XD) But it wasn't, and I think that was one of the major things that people appreciated about M64. It was a big step for Mario and there were many people who worried that the traditional Mario *feel* to the game would be lost with such a different approach to gameplay. M64 was something new when it was first released with it being the first 3D Mario and all. I didn't hate the game and yeah, I did compare it to M64 because they were similar. I loved the whole tropical island idea, and all the visuals were amazing! Fighting Mecha Bowser while on the roller coaster was a very neat experience! The music was to die for as well! The only complaint I have against Sunshine was that it was harder getting to the final boss than actually beating him. That being said, I still stand with Sunshine. This has created a lot of hype, a lot more than Sunshine. The gameplay (as we have seen so far) is very innovative and breaths new life into an already, extremely successful franchise. So in a way, Mario Galaxy is 128, because a lot of the ideas went into it. Super Mario Galaxy is a direct result of that. It's actually a concept, a laboratory if you will, of innovation and ideas that Nintendo tries out and puts into future Mario games. And truth be told, Super Mario 128 isn't a game, and probably won't ever be a game. Also, more were disappointed when they found out that Sunshine wasn't the Super Mario 128 that everyone was waiting for. This wasn't as true for Super Mario Sunshine, so some fans were disappointed. Mario was the specimen that Nintendo mainly tested on while building that console (and if I'm not mistaken, the same would go for all the previous consoles as well), so imagination and innovation really went into to it. The Nintendo 64 was actually built around the Super Mario 64. But to answer your question, some didn't like Sunshine because it wasn't as much as an innovative experience as Super Mario 64 (my all-time favorite video game).
